Welcome to Filigree Art
Welcome to Filigree Art, where the centuries-old tradition of filigree is reimagined through contemporary art, design and craftsmanship.
Based in Malta, Mark Borg is an award-winning goldsmith, silversmith and filigree artist whose journey began at the age of 13, when he attended his first filigree course. Since then, he has developed a distinctive approach that combines the precision and heritage of traditional Maltese filigree with contemporary ideas, materials and techniques.
At Filigree Art, traditional craftsmanship meets experimentation. Alongside traditional Maltese filigree and jewellery, Mark creates contemporary sculptures and kinetic works, exploring the relationship between metal, light, movement and space. His work incorporates a variety of materials and techniques, including precious metals, steel, brass, upcycled materials, 3D printing, stone setting and mechanical movement.
Each piece is handcrafted, reflecting the patience, precision and dexterity at the heart of filigree. Traditional motifs and techniques are not simply reproduced, but reinterpreted to create works that explore new forms and possibilities while remaining rooted in Malta’s rich craft heritage.
Mark’s work has received recognition both nationally and internationally, including multiple Premju Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti awards, selection for the Malta Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Japan, and collaborations with Maltese fashion designer Luke Azzopardi through The Bloom of Tradition: Filigree Reimagined.
Filigree Art is a celebration of tradition, innovation and the human hand — preserving an ancient craft while exploring where it can go next.
